Demo & Painting Workshop: Tuesday September 22nd 7:30am-3:30pm

 

Start the day with a live demo by Toni Danchik and see a scene come to life! Then practice designing your own scene with black & white pencil sketches and value studies. In the afternoon, she’ll move into color sketching techniques using your value studies as a guide. The day concludes with individual feedback, discussion, and a group critique.

 

What You Will Learn:

-How to simplify a scene into shapes, planes, and values

-Understanding light, shadow, and how it affects your composition

-Techniques for creating thumbnail sketches to plan your painting

-The importance of a strong value sketch before adding color

 

Hands-On Practice:

-Black & white pencil sketches

-Value painting using dark, middle, and light tone

-Color sketch guided by your value painting

 

Class Fee: $200 Demo & Workshop

 

Meet at Mono Arts Council at 7:30am, then caravan to location. Location subject to change pending weather conditions.  MAC will update workshop attendees with any changes.

 

What to bring:

-Easel, Tripod, Umbrella (Your regular Plein Air Painting Setup) & chair for demo portion

-Gamsol in a portable container

-Palette knives & Brushes:  Bristol Flat 2,4,6,8

-Trashbag/paper towels

-Sun protection:  Vizor, Sunblock

-Water for Hydration & snacks

-Sketchbook with pencils 4B, 6B

-Boards for B&W Studies: 6 x 8 or 8 x 10 and Boards for final color sketch

-Recommended Paints: (*Brand is important for certain colors as colors vary between brands)

About the Artist:

Toni Danchik is a Southern California–based painter known for her expressive, light-filled plein air landscapes. Drawing inspiration from coastal scenes, parks, and everyday moments in nature, her work captures the rhythm, color, and atmosphere of the outdoors with energetic brushwork and a strong sense of design.


A regular participant in juried exhibitions, Toni has shown with the California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibitions and the Festival of Arts, and has taken part in numerous plein air events throughout California. She is passionate about painting on location and sharing her love of observation, light, and storytelling with others through workshops and classes.
